Frequently Asked Questions

Is acupuncture during pregnancy safe?

Yes! Pregnancy acupuncture is absolutely safe, and it can even support pregnancy wellness, help turn breech babies, prepare the body for healthy labor, and treat postpartum imbalances.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete system of medicine that has been in existence for more than 2,000 years. It has its own system of diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and therapies that work to restore and balance the body. When the body is out of balance, illness, pain, and other physical and emotional symptoms may arise. Chinese Medicine resolves these imbalances by strategic placement of acupuncture needles, herbs, tuina (acupressure based massage), moxabustion (heat therapy), cupping, gua sha (Chinese myofascial release) and diet therapy. Chinese medicine is unique in that it can be used to correct imbalances that have become illness and pain, or to correct imbalances prior to the appearance of symptoms to prevent disease.

Can acupuncture help treat nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sciatica, and digestive issues?

Yes, natural medicine and acpuncture are great at treating nausea, vomiting, sciatica, and digestive issues during pregnancy, as well as a host of other symptoms.

Do you take health insurance?

We are now an in-network provider with select Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans! Please give us a call to verify your insurance benefits.

For all other plans and insurance situations: The Nest will provide coded Superbills to patients upon request so that they may submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement.

For uninsured patients or patients who do not wish to submit to insurance, treatment package options are available upon inquiry.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture helps move stagnant energy in the body to balance hormones, promotes thinning and ripening of the cervix, Helps encourage proper positioning of baby, relaxes the muscles, tendons and ligaments in order to allow baby to easily descend further into the pelvis, addresses any discomforts the mother-to-be may be experiencing
(i.e. heartburn, back pain/sciatica, headache, restless legs, etc.), and maintains and stabilizes healthy blood pressure levels.

Do the needles hurt?

Needles used for acupuncture are hair-fine, sterile, and disposable. The sensations a patient feels from the needles vary from person to person, but generally needle insertions are not painful. Patients often describe a heavy, warm, or tingling sensation when they are resting with their needles. Most patients report a state of deep relaxation and an overall sense of well-being during and after a treatment.
